Overview
Friendship and Cushing : Like the St. George peninsula, the Cushing peninsula is perhaps best known as the home to many Wyeth family members. Today the town of Cushing is characterized by charming, understated residences, farmhouses surrounded by open fields, beautiful Maine oceanfront properties on its rocky shores, and a community committed to natural conservation and historical preservation. With one general store, an elementary school, community center and town office, Cushing is quiet, private, and unspoiled. On the other side of the peninsula between the Meduncook River and Muscongus Bay lies Friendship. Home of the Friendship Sloop, this quiet coastal fishing village off the beaten track has a number of summer homes and a year-round population of about 1,200 residents. The picturesque harbor is home to one of the region's most productive lobster fleets. Waterfront properties overlook the harbor, and other waterfront real estate in Friendship includes private seasonal cottages in attractive, historic summer colonies.
