Overview
Damariscotta and Newcastle: Along the banks of the Damariscotta River, just at the head of the Pemaquid Peninsula, are the sister towns of Damariscotta and Newcastle. The river ebbs and flows with the tide of John’s Bay, which it meets some ten miles away after coursing beneath Damariscotta’s Main Street. With a combined population some 4,000 residents strong, the Maine waterfront real estate of these twin villages offers a mix of oceanfront estates and cottages of traditional Maine architecture and aesthetics. Joined by the main street bridge spanning the Damariscotta River (which means “river of little fish”) the twin villages enjoy year-round fishing, tourism, shopping, and dining.
