Overview
The Maine Coast real estate of Islesboro is located three miles off the coast in Maine's Penobscot Bay. The island is readily accessed by public car ferry, a 20-minute ride that runs nine times a day in the summer, or by private aircraft landing on the island's 2,400-foot airstrip. The island's renowned resort community developed at the turn of the twentieth century, with prominent families establishing the grand waterfront summer cottages that are the signature homes of the current island shorefront. Today, Islesboro's low-key summer community is composed of residents from around the world who appreciate the island's beauty, privacy, and relaxed atmosphere. At about 14 miles in length, the narrow island includes the villages of Pripet, Islesboro, and Dark Harbor.
